About Wells Depot Museum

The Wells Railroad Depot, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and newly restored, stands proudly in a city that began as a railroad town.

The project to restore the depot took six years. In February 2004, the IC&E Railroad contacted the Wells City Development Director with their intent to demolish the 1903 Depot and put up a metal building that would better suit their needs.

The Area Veterans Memorial Park is located at 15 West Franklin in downtown Wells. It honors veterans of all wars for the communites of Alden, Bricelyn, Easton, Delavan, Freeborn, Kiester, Minnesota Lake, Walters and Wells.

The center of the park has a tall flag pole flying our American and the POW-MIA flags. The flag pole stands on a circle of concrete, approximately 50’ in diameter, which is the foundation for four walls of granite. Upon these walls are the engravings of veterans’ names, dates of service, rank and the branch of military.
